The former world number one Osaka was in France last week with rapper Cordae. Posted a photo of two of them sitting in front of the Mona Lisa on Instagram with the caption “Europe.” She also looked to be at a concert. Osaka appears to be back in Los Angeles after appearing in a photo from a pilates studio. But she hasn’t offered any indications that she’s ready for the first major match of the year.

Even though Osaka, is still registered for the Australian Open, she will not be competing in Adelaide or Hobart the following week. As worries increase that the four-time grand slam champion may not participate at all. Officials at Melbourne Park, appear resigned to Osaka’s absence. The AO2023 kicks off on January 16.

After skipping the 2021 French Open, Osaka took a mental health vacation. She later acknowledged that she had been battling depression and anxiety for a few years. It is difficult to picture Osaka genuinely contending for a third title, even if she did compete in Australia.

The Japanese superstar hasn’t competed since leaving the second round of the Tokyo tournament last September due to abdominal pain, and since last May, he’s only completed one match. In her last US Open, where she twice won the championship, she lost in the opening round. Osaka’s most recent triumph was a notably shortened one against Daria Saville in Tokyo after just one match.
