Markram has previously led the South Africa national team in absence of Faf du Plessis. He also led the South Africa U-19 to the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2014. Markram might also be leading the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the upcoming inaugural edition of SA20 League. The Orange Army might be planning to give the leadership role to Markram in both franchise-based tournaments.

Former captain of SRH, Bhuvneshwar knows the franchise inside out. Having led the Orange Army in six matches of IPL 2019, Bhuvi knows what it takes to captain an IPL side. He also led the franchise after Williamson returned home during the ending phase of IPL 2022. So, he could be a good choice for a make-shift captain.
