Being put into bat first, Kane Williamson decided to move down the order and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings with a new partner in Pariyam Garg. Sharma, who was the highest-run-scorer for SRH this season, got out in the third over, scoring just nine runs.

Coming in to bat, Tripathi showed his aggression right from the start of his innings. He smashed two boundaries off spinner Sanjay Yadav in the fifth over of the innings. Bumrah was then introduced to the attack and Tripathi, who played out two dot balls, took him to the cleaners in the last three balls of the over.

He started the onslaught by puling a short pitched delivery over deep-midwicket fence for an 83-metre six. He then scored two back-to-back boundaries through point and covers as SRH raced to 46 runs after the completion of five overs.

Tripathi continued his attack on the Mumbai Indians bowlers as he reached his fifty in 32 balls. After his fifty he accelerated the innings, scoring three boundaries, that included a six, off Daniel Sams in the 16th over of the innings.

Tripathi’s innings finally came to an end in the 18th over, as he tried to go for a big shot and was caught at the long on boundary. He departed scoring 76 off 44 balls that included 9 fours and 3 sixes.
