In a surprising turn of events, Team S8UL Esports, the North American representatives for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup (MSC) at the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), has been disqualified from the tournament. The decision, announced today by MLBB MSC 2025 Committee, stems from a breach of the official rules by two of their key players, Jang “HOON” Seong-hun and Michael “MOBAZANE” Cosgun.
S8UL Esports can’t play MLBB MSC 2025
According to the official announcement, HOON and MOBAZANE participated in an event associated with a competing mobile Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) title. This directly violates Section 2, Penalty Index B of the MSC Penalty Index, which prohibits team members from engaging in any competitor games’ events, activities, livestreams, or other forms of exposure.
The MLBB MSC 2025 Committee stated that they had made multiple attempts to engage with Team S8UL, offering opportunities to reconsider HOON and MOBAZANE’s participation in the competing event to maintain their eligibility. However, Team S8UL chose to proceed, leading to the immediate disqualification of both players.

As a direct consequence of these suspensions, Team S8UL is no longer able to meet the tournament’s minimum roster requirements. The MSC Official Rules, specifically Section 3.1.1, mandate each team to have “at least 5 players (“STARTER”) and 1 substitute player and 1 coach.” Furthermore, Section 5.2.3 states that “Teams’ player roster need to be the same as the team that qualified for MSC in MPL or local qualifications, unless there is a force majeure before the roster lock date that necessitates a change, such as a player’s sudden illness or an accident that prevents them from coming to host country.” As such, S8UL is not eligible for roster changes or force majeure exceptions in this instance.
With Team S8UL’s disqualification, the vacant slot for the MSC 2025 has been awarded to Area 77, the runner-up of the NACT Spring 2025. Area 77 will now represent North America on the global stage.

This development serves as a stark reminder of the strict adherence to rules required in professional esports.
