Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh wants Rohit Sharma and Vira Kohli to be pushed to their maximum in order to extend their career. The duo retired from T20Is after the World Cup in 2024 and then calle it quits from Tests just before the IND vs ENG Test series. Amid the uncertainty over their future in ODIs, Yograj suggested that the duo be provided motivation from someone like ex-KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Ro-Ko should get training from Pandit?
Speaking to InsideSport in an exclusive interview, Yograj claimed that the lack of performance from Rohit and Kohli was because they thought of themselves as bigger than all. He claimed Sachin Tendulkar always performed as he was grounded while Don Bradman averged 99 simply because the others couldn’t do so. Yograj said that there was a coach like Chandrakant Pandit needed to push the duo of Ro-Ko.
“I think the problem is, if you are not performing, you are bound to see people saying back off. I’ve seen Chandrakant Pandit telling Kaif you back off if you can’t perform. Pandit at this moment is Yograj’s life, he wants performances,” Yograj said.
repeating his atatement from last year, the former Indian cricketer said that there was no reason to ask Rohit to wake up at 5 AM to train. He further said that Rohit and Viat migjht have some technical issues but it was upto the coach that they ensured the problem was solved.
“I would say ‘guys, get up at 5 AM let us train’. No one is greater than the game. Why did not anyone go and talk to Virat that he was playing wrong? Who will tell Rohit that at 5 AM that ‘come on boy, it’s time for a 10km run’. I would say that,” he added.
