India cricket team star Jasprit Bumrah will not be taking part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 which commences from December 24. While other members of the national team like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja among others will be taking part in at least a couple of games in the tourney, that won’t be the case for the ace speedster. Bumrah was last seen in action in the IND vs SA T20I series and will next feature for India in the series against New Zealand in January.
Bumrah to skip VHT 2025/26
As per Times of India, Gujarat Cricket Association secretary confirmed that Bumrah will not be taking part in Vijay Hazare Trophy as he will be taking rest. The ace pacer will be key for India in the T20 World Cup 2026 and hence the team management will not want to take the risk of him sustaining an injury by making him play in the domestic tournament. Gujarat will kick-start their VHT 2025/26 campaign by taking on Services at the KSCA Cricket Ground 2 in Alur on Wednesday.
“Bumrah will not feature in VHT as he is taking rest,” Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel said.
After sitting out of a couple of Tests in England, Bumrah has been in action regularly over the last few months. He was a part of the Test series against West Indies, following which he played against South Africa in both the Test and the T20I series. The pacer, who sustained a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the start of the year, spent nearly a couple of months on the sidelines and made his comeback only in IPL 2026. Since then, the Indian team management has been very careful with the bowler’s workload.
Meanwhile, Axar Patel is set to return to action in the VHT after missing the last 2 T210is against SA due to illness.
