India have not won a toss in ODIs since their semi-final clash against New Zealand in the 2023 World Cup.

Team India’s luck with coin tosses continues to be horrendous. In the IND vs SA 2nd ODI, it was Temba Bavuma who won the toss and put India into bat in Raipur. It marked India’s 20th straight ODIs toss loss, a run that stretches almost 2 years to when Rohit Sharma was captain.

710 days and counting: Change in captain but no change in luck

India last won a toss in an ODI game during the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup. Since then, neither Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul nor Shubman Gill have called the toss right. In fact for Shubman, the new captain has lost 10 of his 11 tosses.

While there is no science to calling the toss right, it is bizzare that India’s run has gone this long. To win a toss, simply put, is a 50-50 chance. India’s 20 consecutive coin tosses is a very rare occurrence with only 0.000763 percent chance of it happening.

It has been a mixed bag of results for India since their toss record began. India lost the World Cup final and suffered a series defeat to Sri Lanka. However, the Men in Blue also went unbeaten and clinched another Champions Trophy title earlier this year. Their second string ODI side also snatched a series win in the Rainbow nation.
