Vinod Kambli once hailed as one of India’s most gifted cricketers, failed to reach the heights many expected of him. His career took a downturn, leaving him unable to stage a comeback. In stark contrast, his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar went on to become a cricketing legend. At their former coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial, Kambli and Tendulkar’s reunion highlighted the stark difference in their current situations, sending shockwaves through the cricketing community.
Kambli’s vow to overcome health issues
Amidst concerns from the cricketing fraternity about his health, Kambli has pledged to fight back and address his health problems. In a recent interview, Kambli shed light on his friendship with Sachin, particularly addressing a 2009 incident that strained their relationship. “At that time, it came to my mind that Sachin didn’t help. I was extremely frustrated. But Sachin did everything for me, including paying for my two surgeries in 2013. We spoke, and childhood friendship came forward.”

Sachin’s continued support
Kambli revealed Tendulkar’s ongoing support. “Sachin told me how to play. I made nine comebacks. We are cricketers; we get hurt. When we get out, we also get hurt.” he said. Reflecting on his career highlights, Kambli fondly remembers his double century at Wankhede. “The double hundred at Wankhede, I will cherish the most. Achrekar sir was with me, and we had such a great team. I used to have fun battles with Muttiah Muralitharan and our other opponents.”
A Journey of Gratitude
Concluding with a note of appreciation, Kambli said, “My journey wasn’t perfect, but I gave it my all. I’m grateful for the support of my family and friends like Sachin.”
