Star batter David Warner faced a bizarre incident against the Hobart Hurricanes during a BBL 2024-25 match on January 10. While attempting a shot, Warner’s bat broke, and the broken piece hit him on his helmet. The incident happened on the first ball of the fourth over, bowled by Riley Meredith. The bowler delivered a full ball around the off-stump, which Warner hit straight to mid-on. Although Warner didn’t score any runs from the shot, his bat broke, and a piece struck him on the head. The BBL’s official social media account shared a video of this moment.
Eventful over by Riley Meredith
Riley Meredith’s over was quite eventful, as he also dismissed Warner’s opening partner Sam Konstas later in the same over. Meredith bowled a short ball, which Konstas tried to hit past the keeper. However, the ball hit his gloves and went directly to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.
Warner’s performance and match situation
David Warner remains unbeaten for Sydney Thunder in their ongoing match against the Hobart Hurricanes. He has scored 33 runs off 27 balls, including two boundaries. The batting conditions at Bellerive Oval seem challenging, as other Sydney batters have a strike rate below 130.

Is David Warner playing in IPL 2025?
David Warner didn’t find a team in the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah this November, leaving him without a place for the upcoming season. However, there’s still a possibility for him to play. If any player from a team gets injured or becomes unavailable, a franchise might consider signing Warner at his base price. Considering the current team line-ups, the Punjab Kings or Lucknow Super Giants seem like the best fits for the explosive opener in the upcoming season.
