Abhimanyu Easwaran’s wait for an India cap continues after he was once again ignored for the IND vs ENG 4th Test. Easwaran has been on the fringes of the Indian team since 2021 but is yet to feature in an XI. The Bengal batter was in contention to replace Karun Nair in Manchester, but was ignored for Sai Sudharsan.
No India cap in sight, wait goes on for Abhimanyu Easwaran
Abhimanyu Easwaran was once again left carrying drinks around as Shubman Gill and Gautam gambhir opted to bring back Sai Sudharsan into the India XI. Sudharsan was dropped after the 1st Test, but has returned after Karun Nair’s repeated failures at No.3. The left-hander, who top scored in IPL 2025, was once again preferred over Easwaran who is a top order batsman in domestic cricket.
The 29-year-old opens the batting for Bengal and batted at No.3 for India A in the practice games against England Lions. He has been around the Indian cricket team for a while, being included among backups way back in 2021. However, despite India having a huge turnaround in their batting line-up, an opportunity for Easwaran is yet to come by.
In fact, India have handed 15 caps since Easwaran was first called up to the Indian Test squad. Since then, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired, while Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are out of favour.

Among batsmen, Yashasvi Jaiswal was preferred to open the batting over the 29-year-old with Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul twice made a come back to the top of the order while Easwaran warmed the bench. Domestic stalwarts Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar all made their debuts in the same timeline. Dhruv Jurel also featured, while Nitish Reddy got his call up in Australia.
With Jaiswal and Rahul set as openers, opportunities will be further hard to come by for Easwaran. Sudharsan has the chance to settle the buck for all in Manchester. For Easwaran, it marks another series waiting in the sidelines.
