The Dhaka Premier League is a List A tournament played in Bangladesh that has 12 teams and is usually scheduled in the summer.

Current and former cricketers always rave about how tough the Indian Premier League (IPL) is. Some even label succeeding in the IPL as more difficult than any other T20 tournament, including the World Cup. Yet, former Indian and Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Parvez Rasool rates an unknown tournament like the Dhaka Premier League (DHP).

Why Dhaka Premier League “tougher” than IPL

The spin bowling all-rounder explained why he rates DHP as the tougher tournament. His explanation makes sense as well. Rasool claimed that once you bag an IPL contract, you get a longer rope. As in, you stay with the team for the entire time, but that isn’t the case when you play in DHP.

“I played five years in Bangladesh, Dhaka (Premier) League. I rate the Dhaka league as tougher than the IPL. I played IPL also. I played in the Dhaka League also. Tougher? Why, I’ll tell you, because in IPL you get a contract, right? You get selected, and then whether you play or not, you get a contract,” Rasool said on Off Script with WJ.

The all-rounder added that if you don’t perform, you’ll be cut off by the team. So in some ways, you have added pressure every time you take the field in the Dhaka League while you’ll at least be on the sidelines for the entire tournament in the IPL.

“So it depends on the team; if you are doing good, if you are not doing good in 1 or 2 matches, then you get dropped and stay with the team. But when you play in the Dhaka League, altogether, there is a lot of pressure. Why? Because they are giving you a two-match contract only,” the former RCB star added.

“If you do well in two matches, then you go on. If you fail, you get your return ticket after the third match. I won’t take any names, but there have been some big players who played and were sent back after 2-3 matches,” Rasool concluded.
