The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is trying to defuse the situation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, according to NDTV. It’s reported that the former India captain isn’t pleased with the head coach, and the duo aren’t on great terms.
All is not well between Kohli & Gambhir?
During the India vs South Africa 1st ODI, several viewers pointed out that Kohli was rather cold towards Gambhir. It’s unknown what the reason behind the displeasure might be, but some have speculated that Kohli felt he was into Test retirement before the England tour, and Gambhir may have played a part in it.
But that isn’t all. Some felt Kohli’s comments about preparations were potshots at Gambhir. After India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the BCCI made playing domestic cricket mandatory. That’s why Kohli’s remarks make one wonder whether he’s talking about not playing for Delhi.
“I’ve never been a believer in a lot of prep. All my cricket has been mental. I work physically very hard, as long as my fitness levels are up, and then you visualise batting and feeling well; it’s good,” Kohli had said during the post-match interview in Ranchi.
BCCI does damage control
To mitigate the situation, the BCCI has sent national selector Pragyan Ojha to Raipur, the venue for the India vs South Africa 2nd ODI. Kohli and Ojha have been spotted sitting together at the airport and talking, which further substantiates the claim.
It was previously reported that the BCCI is expected to schedule a meeting between Kohli, Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar at some point during the South Africa tour, but that doesn’t seem to be happening in Raipur.
