Former Team India selector K Srikkanth took a dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the handling of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The veteran duo took the world by surprise when they announced their abrupt decisions to retire from Tests just before the IND vs ENG series in May 2025. Srikkanth opined that both Kohli and Sharma deserved farewells and that it was the BCCI’s fault for maintaining a communication gap.
Srikkanth slams BCCI over Kohli-Rohit retirement
In a video on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth pointed out that both Virat and Rohit were stalwarts of Indian cricket who deserved send-offs. He alleged that there was a big communication gap when the duo retired. The former Indian claimed that the image painted by the BCCI by not speaking to Ro-Ko on their retirement was not good for Indian cricket.
“If you play 100 Tests for your country, you must be a terrific cricketer. So you should be given a good send-off. I am convinced there was a big communication gap when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired. They should have spoken to them but instead this is not a good look for the game and Indian cricket,” said Srikkanth
The ex-India chief selector also backed Virat Kohli, noting that he had at least 2 more years to give to Test cricket. Srikkanth opined that the former Indian captain surely deserved a farewell but noted that India’s draw in England had fizzled out talks around it. He further said that it would be hard for India to find someone like Kohli in the near future.
“Virat Kohli’s retirement happened just like that. Virat Kohli deserved a better send-off. He still had two years of Test cricket left in him. But because we drew in England, such talks about him got shut off. However, India will find it difficult to get a cricketer like Virat Kohli for some time,” Srikkanth added.
