T20 World Cup 2026: Team India will be bolstered with the presence of a batter like Tilak Varma, who has been out of action for some time.

In a major shot in the arm for the Indian team, batter Tilak Varma is close to achieving full fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup, which starts on Feb 7. As per a report in the Times of India, the youngster is all set to get the fitness clearance by the CoE. In fact, he is also expected to take part in a simulation match as well.

Tilak Varma fully fit

He had suffered an abdominal injury, and after a surgery, had been training at the CoE. The batter was expected to join the Indian team for the last two T20Is vs New Zealand, but the management decided to name Shreyas Iyer for the remaining matches as well. Now, as per BCCI, Tilak will join the team on Feb 3, if he is fully fit.

There is also an update on pacer Mayank Yadav. He seems to have achieved full fitness now, after spending almost a year in rehab, due to lower back stress fracture. The 23-year-old is in the team for IND A, which will play a few warm up matches for the T20 World Cup.

Mayank Yadav, Riyan Parag 100% now

On the other hand, Riyan Parag, who had injured his right shoulder, is expected to get the fitness clearance, and will be a part of the simulation match. Lastly, Washington Sundar, the all-rounder is expected to undergo a fitness test on Feb 4, as per previous reports.

His side strain injury, that he sustained during the IND vs NZ ODI series, has taken a little longer to heal. It seems the board is no hurry to name a replacement for him, and could very well be a part of the team, once of the second round of the T20 World Cup begins. India, meanwhile, play their first match of the tournament on Feb 7, vs USA.
