Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan warned head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma about their tactics leading to a potential “communication gap” in the team. The LSG mentor’s remarks come amid debates around reports suggesting that Shreyas Iyer was set to be dropped in both IND vs ENG ODIs played so far. Khan’s warning comes just days before ICC Champions Trophy.
“Terms & conditions apply”: Zaheer Khan on India’s tactics
In a discussion on Cricbuzz, Zaheer addressed the Indian team’s tactics to try and experiment with various combinations. He noted that while they were fully entitled to deploy whatever tactics they desire, terms and conditions applied with addressing certain plans.
“It’s absolutely fine to try out. They are fully entitled to do what they really feel as tactics. But, in the process, you can’t ignore certain things. There are terms and conditions which apply with addressing certain plans. As long as you are ticking those boxes, you will stay on track. You will not go off the track. You will not see the downside of things. That is very important for them to know,” Zaheer said.

“From the outside, we can only do guesswork and try and put logic to the thinking. But when it comes to being part of the dressing room, if you are the stakeholder, you should be able to tick all those boxes to make sure everyone knows what we are trying to achieve. You will create some communication gap at some stage. If you are missing a piece, it will catch up at some stage,” he added.
Apart from the reports of dropping Shreyas Iyer, India also decided to keep Arshdeep Singh out of the ODI series so far, They went on to rest Kudeep Yadav and play Varun Chakravarthy instead in the 2nd ODI in Cuttack. Further, the batting order was also changed, with the decision to send Axar Patel ahead of KL Rahul not going down well with a lot of former cricketers.
