Shubman Gill’s road to recovery is on the right track. India’s Test and ODI captain suffered a neck injury during the Kolkata Test and has been sidelined since. Gill commenced his rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) on December 1 and has already started batting.
Shubman Gill is all set for a comeback
According to the Times of India, Gill has had net sessions a few times over the past couple of days. The CoE medical staff are closely monitoring him and will gradually increase his workload over the coming days. Soon, catching and fielding drills will be added to Gill’s training schedule as his recovery progresses.
There’s no hurry to grant him a Return to Play (RTP) clearance. In the next 48 hours, Gill will undergo match simulation training, and if there aren’t any red flags, the medical team will allow Gill to return to competitive cricket.
It’s expected that he’ll link up with Team India in Cuttack on December 6. Gill will be included in the squad but with an asterisk of ‘subject to fitness’. At the worst, he’ll miss the series opener on December 9. But at the moment, he’s expected to be available for all five matches.
If reports are to be believed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could name the squad for the T20I series against South Africa on December 3, but it’ll definitely be out by December 4. Chairman of Selectors, Ajit Agarkar, has kept tabs on Gill’s progress. His fitness and availability will play a role in the team selection.
