Shubman Gill had injured his neck on November 15 and hasn't played any cricket since.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) has declared Shubman Gill fit for selection for the India vs South Africa T20I series. The board had named Gill in the squad with an asterisk, and reports had suggested that India’s vice-captain could miss the first two matches.

Gill had checked into the CoE on December 1 and commenced batting in the nets a couple of days later. But the selection pointed towards the expectation that Gill will regain fitness for the series. According to PTI, CoE has granted Gill with Return to Play (RTP) clearance.

“Shubman Gill has successfully completed his rehabilitation at CoE and has met the requisite criteria to be declared fit for all formats of the game,” a communication from CoE stated to the Sports Science and Medicine (SSM) team, which includes physio Kamlesh Jain, strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, and sports doctor Dr Charles.

Gill is expected to arrive in Cuttack on December 6. Team India will set up camp on December 7 since the India vs South Africa 3rd ODI is underway in Visakhapatnam.
