Virat Kohli is currently active only in the ODI format, having announced his retirement from Tests earlier this year in May

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Shreevats Goswami opined that Virat Kohli should have continued playing Test cricket. His remarks come after India’s atrocious performance with the bat continues in the ongoing IND vs SA Test series. Ex-India captain Kohli abruptly brought down the curtains on his Test career earlier this year just before the England tour, taking the world by surprise.

‘Test cricket misses Virat Kohli’

Taking to social media platform X, Goswami reckoned that Test cricket misses Kohli, and claimed that Virat should have retired from ODIs instead and should have continued playing in the longest format of the game. The former RCB star claimed that Kohli’s ability to bring the energy, love and passion to the game made Team India believe that they could win in any situation.

Ideally Virat should have left playing ODIs & continued playing test cricket untill he had nothing to give. Test cricket misses him. Not just as a player but just the energy he brought, the love & passion playing for where he made the team believe that they can win in any condition,” Goswami wrote.

Kohli’s last Test series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, wasn’t a tour for him to remember. Barring a hundred in the series, the former Indian captain struggled against the Australian bowlers. 8 out of 10 times he fell victim to the outside the off stump deliveries. While Kohli did take part in a Ranji Trophy game for Delhi against J&K earlier this year, signalling that he was ready to play Tests for longer, he shocked the world by following the footsteps of Rohit Sharma into Test retirement in May.

Talking about the IND vs SA 2nd Test, India put up a horrific performance with the bat. Rishabh Pant and co. lost 6 wickets for just 27 runs, suffering a stunning collapse that put SA on top at the end of play on Day 3.
