Shameful! Australian cricketers molested in Indore
As per Times of India, the Australian women’s cricket team’s security manager Danny Simmons lodged a complaint with the MIG Colony police station. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday morning.
“CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter,” Cricket Australia’s statement read.
A Dainik Bhaskar report offered more details on the shameful incident. The accused reportedly followed the two players who were walking back from The Neighbourhood Café near Khajrana Road to the Radisson Blu hotel. The accused allegedly made lewd gestures and even tried grabbing one of the Australian women’s cricket team stars. The report claims that the player sent a SOS (emergency distress) message to the team’s security manager Danny Simmons in the wake of the incident.
The accused has been identfied as 30-year old Aqeel – a resident of Khajrana.
“Our players were walking a short distance to a nearby café. Around 11 a.m., they sent me an SOS alert that a man was following them and trying to grab them. Both the players were escorted back to their hotel and did not sustain any physical injuries,” Australia’s security manager Simmons said in a statement.
Further, the ICC and the BCCI were notified about the incident following which local security protocols for international players were reinforced. Police have also reportedly reviewed security deployment at the team hotel and practice venues in order to avoid repeat of such an incident.
“A case has been registered under Sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), equivalent to “outraging the modesty of a woman.” CCTV footage from near the Radisson Ring Road and Khajrana area captured the accused trailing the cricketers, which helped the police identify and apprehend him swiftly,” police officials said.
