Sai Sudharsan undergoes surgery, thanks BCCI & Gujarat Titans for support

Sudharsan played against Australia A in October-November but wasn't asked to stay back despite scoring a century for India A.

Sai Sudharsan, one of the most promising talents in India, has undergone surgery. It’s uncertain what sort of injury Sudharsan had suffered, but he hadn’t played cricket since November 23, when he played for Tamil Nadu in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 opener against Tripura.

Form before injury

Just before participating in the SMAT, Sudharsan was part of India A’s tour of Australia. The southpaw has batted at number three in the two matches against Australia A instead of his usual opener spot. But he’d found success. In the first game, he scored 124 runs (21 and 103) but recorded single-digit scores in the next match (0 and 3). Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal were selected ahead of Sudharsan for the India vs Australia Test series, as both scored more runs than he was the only centurion of the tour from either side. Unfortunately, a week after that snub, he injured him.

“Will be back stronger in no time. A big thank you to the medical team and BCCI for their efforts and support. Thank you, Titans family, for your love and support,” Sudharsan wrote on his social media. It can’t be confirmed, but from the looks of it, the southpaw underwent the surgery in England. He tagged the Gujarat Titans assistant coach for the IPL 2024 season, Naeem Amin, who’s got an academy in London.

When will Sai Sudharsan return to cricket?

As mentioned above, no one’s aware of what sort of injury Sudharsan suffered, and therefore it’s uncertain to determine how long it’ll take him to recover. But one can make an assumption that he won’t be able to participate in at least the opening round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, which commences on December 21. If Tamil Nadu goes to the knockout stage (January 12-18), Sudharsan might be able to make a return.
