All’s not well in Indian cricket. Although the T20I side has been flying high, there are issues in the other two formats. The team’s undergoing a transition in Test cricket. On paper, everything’s fine in ODIs, but it turns out there’s turmoil in the dressing room.
Rohit-Kohli unhappy with Gambhir?
According to Dainik Jagran, the senior-most players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, aren’t on great terms with India head coach Gautam Gambhir. All was fine until the duo announced their Test retirement in May. It was previously speculated that Rohit and Kohli were pushed out instead of opting to leave red-ball cricket on their own.
It was already reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will invite Rohit, Kohli, Gambhir, and Ajit Agarkar to converse about the future of the senior pros with regard to the 2027 ODI World Cup. But it seems like that won’t be the only topic of discussion.
“The relations between Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma aren’t as good as they should be, and there could be a meeting regarding the future of the two players. This could take place either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam – venues for the second and third ODIs,” a BCCI source told Dainik Jagran.
Is Rohit Sharma angered over captaincy sacking?
It turns out that Rohit isn’t on good terms with Agarkar either. The Chairman of Selectors goes a long way back with Rohit, having played with him for Mumbai. But things have gone south. Perhaps removing Rohit as India’s ODI captain could be the reason behind the unhappiness.
During India’s white-ball tour of Australia, Rohit and Agarkar didn’t interact at all. Since becoming chief selector in July 2023, Agarkar has accompanied the Indian team on multiple tours. He’s often seen conversing with the captain, coach, and senior players, but at the moment, he and Rohit aren’t seeing eye to eye.
