The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen on scheduling a white-ball series against Sri Lanka in August. The talks of the tour only came about after the white-ball tour of Bangladesh was postponed to 2026. Reports had emerged that BCCI was in talks with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) about a 3-match ODI and T20I series.
Last summer, the Men in Blue had travelled to the neighbouring island to play a white-ball series, which resulted in a 3-0 victory in T20Is and a 0-2 defeat in T20Is. But it seems like BCCI isn’t interested in sending Team India to Sri Lanka this year.
“We will decide about the series, but it looks unlikely,” a source told Sports Tak.
Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli’s ODI wait to continue
This means that fans of the Indian cricket team will have to wait to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in action. The modern greats haven’t played for India since March and announced their retirement from Test cricket in May. Last year, after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, they had decided to retire from the shortest format as well.
This means that ODI is the only format of international cricket that both Rohit and Kohli still play. Their fans were desperately waiting to see them in action. The news of an India vs. Sri Lanka ODI series had given them hope, but the BCCI isn’t interested as of now.
So far, Team India has only confirmed to play 6 more ODIs in 2025. Three at home and three away. Fitness permitting, Rohit and Kohli will feature. But that may be all. It’ll mean that both will feature in the Indian jersey after 8 months, since that incredible 2025 Champions Trophy victory.
