Rohit Sharma jumped two places in the ICC rankings for ODI batters to replace Shubman Gill as the number 1 batter

Former India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has been ranked as the number one batter in ODIs for the first time in his career. His ascension comes after a stellar couple of knocks in the 1st and 2nd IND vs AUS ODIs that saw him finish his last series in Australia on a high note. Incidentally, the Hitman replaces current Indian skipper at the top of the rankings for ODI batters.

Rohit replaces Shubman as no.1 batter

Following his 73 and unbeaten 121 run-knocks, Rohit has jumped two spots on the ICC rankings for ODI batters to occupy the top position. The ex-India skipper proved that he’s still got it amid all the buzz over his future with back-to-back good knocks after being dismissed for just 8 runs in Perth. Sharma’s previous best career ranking was 2, way back in 2019 where his form was absolutely sensational. The Hitman has created history by topping the rankings for ODI batters at the age of 38, dispelling all speculations surrounding his future.

Gill, who had a sub-par ODI series after managing to score 43 runs, has slipped down two spots and is currently ranked 3rd. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli – who registered back-to-back ducks in the first two ODIs, has slipped down one position to 6th in the rankings.

Apart from the trio, the only other Indian batter in the top ten is Shreyas Iyer – ranked 9th having gone up one spot. KL Rahul is ranked 14th.

In the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav has moved one place down and is ranked 7th. He is the only Indian bowler in the top ten presently. Siraj is ranked 16th.

In the rankings for all-rounders in ODIs, Axar Patel has jumped four spots to the 8th position.
