Former India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma will take part in a couple of Vijay Hazare Trophy games before the IND vs NZ ODI series. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named the squad for the upcoming 50-over domestic tournament and has included the Hitman in the side. Sharma’s inclusion comes after Mumbai selection committee head Sanjay Patil had hinted that the veteran won’t be included in the squad.
Rohit Sharma named in Mumbai squad for VHT
The squad, which will be led by captain Shardul Thakur, comprises of stars like Rohit, Sarfaraz Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Tushar Deshpande among others. VHT 2025/256 will get underway from December 24 while the ODI series against New Zealand will begin on January 11. This gives Rohit ample time to take part in at least two games, allowing him to abide by the BCCI’s directive to all the national players to take part in the tournament.
Mumbai squad: Shardul Thakur (C), Rohit Sharma (2 matches), Ishan Mulchandani, Musheer Khan, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Chinmay Sutar, Akash Anand (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Tushar Deshpande, Onkar Tarmale, Sylvester DSouza, Sairaj Patil, Suryansh Shedge
Earlier in the day, a report had claimed that Rohit along with Yashasvi jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube won’t be named in mumbai’s squad for VHT. The BCCI recently reiterated that all India players are required to feature in at least two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, unless declared unfit or undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence.
“All these India players will be accommodated in the Mumbai squad when they are available. If they aren’t available, it’s not right to name them in the squad and deprive a youngster of a place in the team,” Patil told Times of India.
