India cricket team’s squad for IND vs ENG T20Is saw Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal being left out. The trio were a part of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy where the visitors were handed a 1-3 thrashing at the hands of Australia. Now, it has come to light that the stars have been rested in order to allow them to recover for the ODI series and ICC Champions Trophy.
Why Pant, Gill & Jaiswal aren’t playing IND vs ENG T20Is?
As per Times of India, Pant, Gill and Jaiswal have been rested for the IND vs ENG T20Is in order to allow them to recover from the gruelling IND vs AUS Test series. The goal is to get them prepared for the ODI series which will commence after the T20Is and the Champions Trophy. While Pant and Jaiswal featured in all five Tests, Gill made it to the playing XI on three occasions.
“Pant, Gill and Jaiswal have been rested from this series to allow them to recover fully from the gruelling Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, for the ODIs against England and Champions Trophy in February,” a source said.

While Gill and Pant are automatic choices in India’s ODI squad. young Jaiswal is expected to earn his maiden ODI call-up. The southpaw has been India’s opener in Tests and T20Is so far. After his stellar chart topping performance in 2024, he is expected to be named in India’s Champions Trophy squad as a back-up opener. Gill will return as India’s first-choice opener for Champions Trophy and will bat alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. While reports have claimed that the team management is keen on preferring KL Rahul over Pant as their first-choice keeper, the latter is expected to be named in the squad.
