In a worrying sign for Team India, keeper Rishabh Pant injured his left hand, while doing his duties on the first day of the IND vs ENG, Lord’s Test, on Thursday. The incident happened during the second session, in the 34th overs of the innings, when Jasprit Bumrah bowled one to Ollie Pope.
Rishabh Pant Blow for Team India
Just as he collected the ball, he looked visibly in pain, and immediately the physio was called. But then, despite heavy bandaging on the hand, it was a forceful blow, and Rishabh Pant had to go off the field. That said, the wicket-keeping isn’t much of a problem, but the bigger trouble will be, when India bat.
Currently the status of Pant’s injury is not known, and come India’s batting, his batting could also take a hit. The southpaw has been in sublime form with the bat, and to not have him fully fit, could leave India well short. In batting, no replacement will be available to the team.
Dhruv Jurel Takes Over Keeping Duties
As far as the current situation of the match is concerned, Indian bowlers are looking to break the Joe Root and Ollie Pope stand. The duo have added over 50 runs together, with no real signs of getting out. The Lord’s pitch has looked conducive to batting, and despite creating a few chances overall, the bowlers have been rather ineffective.
Surprisingly, Nitish Kumar Reddy produced some magic before lunch, where he managed to get both the openers — Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the same over. Since then, nothing has worked for the bowlers.
