The second day’s action was rather slow in the fourth round of matches in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. Although a world record was created, overall, considering how action-packed the first day was, it was a slight letdown.
Fastest first-class fifty
Akash Kumar Choudhary has hit the fastest first-class fifty in the Meghalaya vs Arunachal Pradesh match. The tailender came out to bat at number eight and needed just 11 balls to score his 3rd half-century. Akash hit 8 sixes to get there, including 6 sixes in an over to Limar Dabi.
Prithvi Shaw misses out
After taking Karnataka’s last 5 wickets for 56 runs on the second day, Maharashtra are on 200/6 in 66 overs. The reason why the hosts are behind in the match played at MCA Cricket Stadium is that none of their batters made their starts count. Prithvi Shaw is the biggest culprit in this matter. He remains the only Maharashtra batter to score a fifty but didn’t make it count, falling for 71.
Simarjeet Singh takes 6-fer
Simarjeet Singh has given Delhi a chance against Jammu and Kashmir. The pacer had the visitors at 29/3, taking the first 3 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. But his teammates didn’t help him enough. Paras Dogra and Abdul Samad’s 151-run stand took the game away from Delhi. Simarjeet returned and claimed 3 of the last 4 wickets to restrict J&K to 311.
Hanuma Vihari & Vijay Shankar go big
Hanuma Vihari had ended the first day unbeaten on 143 against Assam. He added just 13 more runs on the second day but managed to score his 150. After him, Vijay Shankar repeated what Vihari did. He remained unbeaten on 150, getting there in just 143 balls with 14 fours and 4 sixes to his name. Tripura declared on 602/7 and had Assam on 67/4 at stumps.
