Shoaib Bashir

Shoaib Bashir, born October 13, 2003, in Chertsey, Surrey, is a 22-year-old English off-spin bowler of Pakistani descent who has emerged as a promising talent in Test cricket. Standing at 6 ft 4 in, Bashir combines height with control, making him a potent force on spin-friendly pitches. He plays for Somerset, with loan stints at Worcestershire and Glamorgan, and represents England internationally. Bashir’s meteoric rise saw him debut in Test cricket against India in February 2024, just eight months after his First-Class debut for Somerset in June 2023.

Despite limited experience, he took 17 wickets in three Tests during England’s 2024 India tour, including a five-wicket haul (5/119). At home, he claimed 5/41 against West Indies at Trent Bridge, becoming the youngest English spinner to achieve a five-wicket haul in England. Named the Cricket Writers’ Club NV Play Young Player of the Year in 2024, Bashir reached 50 Test wickets as England’s youngest bowler. His ability to bowl long, accurate spells and adapt to varied conditions marks him as a key prospect. Off the field, Bashir, who speaks Pothwari and Urdu, is noted for his humility and work ethic.
