Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli aren’t just cricketers; they are buzzwords. Media houses use their names to get views and clicks. These are accusations levied by Mohammad Kaif.
The former Indian cricketer has claimed that people are hoping Rohit and Kohli will fail to mention them. Some had called for dropping them; others wanted them to retire.
“In the back of their minds, they know people are waiting for them to fail. There are selectors and some media people,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
Rohit-Kohli must be supported
But the veteran batters have silenced the critics with their performance in the India vs Australia ODI series. Kohli was struggling in the first two matches and ended on a high note. While Rohit was India’s best batter in the series and the last two matches, top scorer in both.
Kaif highlighted that Rohit and Kohli’s performance in Australia means that they’ll leave international cricket on their own terms now and won’t be pushed out. He added that age is merely a number and that instead of criticising them, people should support the modern greats as the road to the 2027 ODI World Cup begins.
“But now there is also a clear determination in Virat and Rohit. Look at their focus—they were calm, but you can see the fire. They want to leave on their own terms in this format and not give anyone a chance to push them out. It is a must to have Rohit and Virat in the team because of the experience they bring. Rohit thrives on bouncy tracks, and Virat plays well on fast pitches. Age is just a number for them. People support them because they haven’t done anything wrong,” he added.
