T20 World Cup: South Africa earn easy win over Canada, Scotland & Zimbabwe triumph

Here is the Points Table after Day 3.

The runners-up of the last edition, South Africa, are off to a good start with a comfortable 57-run win over Canada in Group D. Canada ended their innings at 156/8. With New Zealand and Afghanistan also in the group, the run rate boost will help the Proteas. They were not tested enough today, but their batters did well and the bowling was excellent. However, as they take on Afghanistan next, they will have to be ready for a tough fight.

Navneet Dhaliwal's fine knock of 64 runs comes to an end as Corbin Bosh gets a wicket.

Marco Jansen is now on a hat-trick as he dismisses Jaskaran Singh for a golden duck. Jaskaran tried to go after Jansen's full delivery on the leg side but did not time it well and got caught by Tristan Stubbs. Canada 7 down for 133.

Chandigarh-born Navneet Dhaliwal will cherish this moment. Not often does a Canadian player get to score a fifty in a T20 World Cup. He brings up his fifty off 39 deliveries, slow in today's T20 terms but he was up against a tough bowling attack of South Africa. And as Canada were in a slide, he held the fort with Harsh Thaker with a 69-run stand. This is Dhaliwal's second fifty in a T20 World Cup, and 10th of his career.

Lungi Ngidi returns and breaks the stand for his 4th wicket. He bowls a slower off-cutter and Harsh Thaker gets a top edge to Kagiso Rabada. The 69-run stand is broken. Canada 114/5.

Harsh Thaker and Navneet Dhaliwal bring up a 50-run stand to stop the slide. However, Canada are far from safe. They still need 118 runs in the last 48 balls at a run rate of close to 15. It's mission impossible. 

Corbin Bosch's faint appeal was approved and it was given out by the on-field umpire. Harsh Thaker took the review right away and he the ultraedge proved that there was no edge.

Halfway through and Canada have managed 75/4 with 139 runs still needed off the last 10 overs.

Canada are rebuilding with Navneet Dhaliwal and Harsh Thaker leading the charge. They haven't scored a lot of the runs but they are trying to play deep and survive against South Africa's deadly pace attack.

After Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada joins the party as he cleans up Shreyas Movva with a full delivery. Canada are 4 down for 45 in the powerplay.

After 5 overs, Canada have managed 44/3. It's not a bad score but the three wickets will hurt them.

Lungi Ngidi is running riot here as he bags his third wicket in just 12 deliveries. Nicholas Kirton is the latest to fall as he tries to pull a short delivery only to completely miscue it for an easy catch to Kagiso Rabada.

It's Lungi Ngidi again and he deals the second blow in his second over as Yvraj Samra pokes it to Quinton de Kock this time. Canada 22/2.

Lungi Ngidi strikes on the first ball and Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa departs for a golden duck after half-heartedly poking the delivery to Quintin de Kock behind the stumps.

Canada begin 214-run chase. They will need a record chase as no international team has ever chased down 200+ total in Ahmedabad. In the IPL, the highest successful chase is 205.

David Miller and Tristan Stubbs' late surge helps South Africa post 213/4. South Africa would be disappointed not to capitalise on the good first 10 overs.

David Muller hits Jaskarandeep for two consecutive sixes in the last over to take South Africa to 200+.

After a period of lull, Tristan Stubbs has unleashed his shots. He takes on Jaskarandeep for a four and a six in the 18th over to score some important runs for South Africa.

Tristan Stubbs and David Miller are struggling against the older ball. Runs and boundaries both dry up at the death.

South Africa maintained a steady pace but they have lose three big hitters in the last four overs. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs are the two new batters on the crease as South Africa eye 200+ in Ahmedabad.

South Africa have suddenly lost momentum as they lose another wicket in quick succession. Dewald Brevis tried to go after Ansh Patel, only to top edge for a catch to Nicholas Kirton. South Africa 138/4.

After Aiden Markram, South Africa lose Ryan Rickleton for another set batter. He tried to go for the big one but did not time it well and it was an easy catch by Harsh Thaker. Rickleton falls for 33 off 21.

A stunning catch by Dilon Heyliger on the boundary line as Aiden Markram falls for 59 off 32. Markram tried to hit on a widish delivery and timed it just fine. But as the ball was sailing over the rope, Heyliger plucked it out. SA lose their 2nd wicket for 126.

Aiden Markram brings up his half-century off 28 balls after a misfield allowed im to get a boundary in the last ball of the 10th over.

South Africa get to 104/1 in 10 overs with Aiden Markram doing the heavy lifting. But Ryan Rickleton is also off to a fine start after Quinton de Kock's wicket.

Quinton de Kock did not look in good touch and his struggles have come to an end as Dilpreet Bajwa cleans him up. SA 70/1

With Aiden Markram hitting Jaskarandeep for a six and a four in the 6th over, South Africa get to 66/0 in the powerplay. Markram has been the aggressor with Quinton de Kock digging deep.

Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock bring up a 50-run stand in 4.3 overs. Markram has led the charge but De Kock is picking up pace in the powerplay.

Quinton de Kock gets an early lifeline as he tries to cut Kaleem Sana over the third man. The fielder tries his best to reach but he can't hold on to the ball.

South Africa have their first boundary and it has come from Aiden Markram's bat. Widish full delivery and Markram smashed it through extra cover for a four. He then followed that up with another boundary through the covers.

Ryan Rickleton has been slotted at No 3. So, Aiden Markram will open with Quinton de Kock.

The Narendra Modi stadium is almost empty and even a 50,000 crowd would feel empty at this huge stadium in Ahmedabad. But the two sides make it to the middle for the national anthems.

Zimbabwe have defeated Oman by 8 wickets with 6.3 overs to spare to get their first win of the T20 World Cup 2026. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza scores the winning runs with a boundary to get his team across the line.

Taylor walks off due to what looks like a hamstring worry as Zimbabwe close in on a win.

And then we have been here for five-odd days as well. So certainly those 10-12 days have certainly helped us to prepare. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza wins the toss and opts to bowl first against Oman in Colombo on Monday. The game marks ZIM's return to the T20 World Cup after missing out in the 2024 edition.

Scotland, who replaced Bangladesh in the tournament, have recorded their 8th win in T20 World Cups. Italy had a bad game but will take the learning from here on. Catch the points table of Group C above.

Scotland script an easy win at the end despite some fireworks from the Manenti brothers. Michael Leask was superb as he took 4/17, helping Scotland bundle Italy out for 134. Mind, Scotland took only 9 wickets before Wayne Madsen was declared retired out after his shoulder dislocation in the 1st innings.

50 and Benjamin Manenti's gone 😔! Caught by Michael Jones off Oliver Davidson. Manenti tried to drive, but it didn't have enough power, and Jones took a great catch. it was a nothing shot by the BBL star, who plays for Sydney Sixers. Italy 129/6 in 14.1 overs, big wicket for Scotland.

Now, Scotland have a wicket in either side of the drinks break. Gerard Stewart is the latest one to get out as Munsey takes 4 catches! A three-fer for Leask now. The game is out of Italy's hand it seems as they need 78 off 34 but all established batters are back in the pavilion. 

Harry Manenti is gone 😟!

Caught by George Munsey off Michael Leask's clever ball. Manenti tried to lift it, but it was a lazy shot, and Munsey took his third catch of the game. The 73-run stand with his brother is over; Italy 75/3 in 12.1 overs. Grant Stewart's in. Michael Leask is having a terrific game.

After 11 overs, Italy make 100/3. They start the 12th over with back to back boundaries. They now need 99 off 51! Interesting match this. 

Italy have completed their powerplay overs and they are 54/3. Unfortunately for the newcomers, they are virtually 54/4 as Wayne Madsen is ruled out due to an injury. 

Harry Minenti, who has 14* off 9, is ever-so crucial now for Italy as they need 154 runs in remaining 14 overs. Required run rate touching 11. 

Smuts' explosive innings ends 😟!

Caught by Richie Berrington off Brad Currie's clever bowling. Smuts tried to drive, but Currie pitched it perfectly, and he chipped it straight to Berrington. Italy 32/2 in 3.1 overs, Harry Manenti is in. 

Note that Italy are playing with one batter short after captain Wayne Madsen dislocated his shoulder in the first innings, ending his participation in this game.

JJ Smuts and Anthony Mosca are smashing it. Smuts has gone big - a four, two sixes, and a single off Brad Wheal's first over. Mosca's joining in too, with a six and a punch to mid-off. 32/1 in 3 overs, and Italy's off to a ripper!

Scotland are having a ball here at Eden Gardens! After a sensational batting performance, they start the second innings on a superb note, sending back Justin Mosca for a golden duck. A wicket on the first ball of the innings! 

Michael Leask who hammered 22* runs in 5 balls, with the wicket as George Munsey takes a superb catch at backward point. Italy's best batter in JJ Smuts now comes to the crease. 

What a finish for Scotland. Michael Leask came, he faced 5 balls and he conquered! Smacking two fours and as many sixes to delight the crowd at Eden Gardens. 

Scotland finish at 207/4, the highest team score at the T20 World Cup 2026. Thomas Draca, who had some hype coming into this game, has had a terrible match as he bowled just 2 overs but leaked 37 runs at 18.50 economy.

Scotland have three more overs with them as they eye the first 200+ total of this T20 World Cup 2026. After the end of 17 overs, Scotland have 166/2. With Brendon McMullen and captain Berrington at crease, they can certainly do that. Italy bowlers haven't been great in this game either.

McMullen looks quite dangerous as he is capitalising on the magnificent start that Munsey and Jones gave. The No. 3 has already racked up 37 off 15. 

Italy gets its first World Cup wicket!

Grant Stewart's ball bounced awkwardly, and George Munsey went for a pull, lofting it to Manenti, who took a great catch at long-on.It ends a fantastic 126-run stand, and Munsey's 84(54) comes to an end. 😃

Brandon McMullen is the new batter in. He can really be another X-factor here.

George Munsey has completed his 14th T20I fifty and what a time to do so. He is just going berserk. Italy bowlers are helpless against the southpaw, who has completed his fifty in 30 balls. His hitting square of the boundary have been the highlight today. Italy bowlers are now starting to bowl wide outside off stump to him.

Powerplay done and Italy fail to find a single wicket. George Munsey is absolutely key for Scotland and he is playing really well today. However, on the lsat ball of the powerplay, Italy dropped a simple catch and a chance to dismiss Munsey. Mosca the culprit.

Oh no, bad news for Italy 😟! Wayne Madsen's gone off the field with a possible dislocated left shoulder after a nasty stretch for the ball. Hope he's okay, but for now, Harry Manenti's taking over as captain. 

Following this, Munsey has hit three consecutive boundaries to Draca. 

Time for Italy to bring in Thomas Draca, who will try to take Italy's first wicket in the T20 World Cup. So far Scottish batters haven't been troubled. Guess what's in store for the next 3 powerplay overs.

The players are out on the field for the national anthems! Italy's anthem will be played at a cricket World Cup for the first time, followed by Scotland's. Time for some patriotic vibes

Italy are making their T20 World Cup debut as the 25th team.
They qualified by finishing second to the Netherlands in the Europe qualifier.
The two teams are evenly matched, with one win each in their T20I head-to-head. Italy won their latest clash by 12 runs in 2025, after Scotland thumped them by 155 runs in 2023.
