IND vs NZ Live, 1st ODI: India 239/4 (40 ovs); Jamieson gets Virat Kohli & Jadeja

Kyle Jamieson gets another wicket as Ravindra Jadeja is dismissed for 4 after giving away a simple catch, thanks to a loose shot. 

The crowd goes silent as Virat Kohli falls for 93 to miss out on his 54th ODI century. Kyle Jamieson bowled a back-of-a-length delivery and as he tried to drive, it went in the air and Michael Bracewell took a fairly simple catch. This is only the 8th time that Kohli has been dismissed in nervous 90s. India are 3 down for 234.

There was a shout and eventually the DRS was taken as Virat Kohli tried to pull a Zakary Foulkes delivery. But the replays showed that he did not edge that. He is on 90.

India is winning for sure, but the more important part is, Kohli is nearing yet another ton here.

It is safe to say, if NZ don't get wickets they are out of this match. The Indian batters have been excellent.

Iyer gets a six and a four in one over. Oh wait, make it two fours now. India in driver's seat at the moment.

Iyer is making a comeback after that Australia series where he had sustained an injury. He is looking confident at the moment.

Adithya Ashok has his first-ever wicket here. Gill tries to cover drive but mistimes it badly. Glenn Phillips takes a simple catch.

Shubman Gill gets his 16th ODI 50 now in 66 deliveries. This is after 8 innings that he has gotten a 50+ score here in ODIs.

It is clear that Kiwi spinners don't want to bowl off-stump line to Kohli. The Indian legens tries to sweep one and nearly chops one on to his wickets. He survives.

There you go. Virat Kohli has yet another 50 in ODIs, and in only 44 deliveries. 100 should come as well.

Team India would want nothing less than a 100 from Kohli, who now is seen only in one format. And, plus he is chasing his 100 100s in international cricket.

Shubman hits a cracking boundary in the over and his strike-rate is improving. India in the driver's seat at the moment.

Virat is looking way too comfortable at the moment and is dealing in boundaries. Shubman is taking a bit of time, since Virat has taken pressure off him.

It looks like Kohli wants to start the year on a positive note. He starts his innings with two cracking fours here. Excellent start.

What has Rohit done here. After a few dots, the batter feels he needed to break the shackles and tries to go for a six. He is caught by skipper Bracewell.

It wasn't all that short, but Rohit dances down the track and hits Jamieson for a six. That is his 650th six in international cricket. He follows it up with a four now.

It had to be Rohit Sharma. He was waiting for that opportunity and he finally got one from Faulkes as he pulled it over the square leg for a six.

Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are off to a cautious start with just 10 runs coming off the first four overs.

Rohit Sharma is off the mark with a boundary. A gentle push as shortish delivery swings away and Rohit guides it through the gap for a boundary.

Rohit Sharma was on song against South Africa and extended his form in Vijay Hazare Trophy, hitting a 150. Now, he will aim to build up on it, especially as India need 301 runs to win.

Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are taking guard as they will begin the 301-run chase for India. With Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also in the middle order after Virat Kohli at No 3, it should not be a difficult chase.

A good last over for New Zealand and they have got to the target they wanted. New Zealand finish with 300/8.

Against the run of play and Prasidh Krishna has got the big wicket of Daryl Mitchell. He falls for 84 as Prasidh traps him leg-before as he was trying to go for another big shot. New Zealand 281/8 in 47.5.

Daryl Mitchell continues to boss the Indian bowlers. He gets the better of Prasidh Krishna with a six and then follows it up with a four.

Daryl Mitchell is still on the crease and New Zealand would be aiming for 300 from here. New Zealand are 250/7 after 45.

New Zealand lose their 7th wicket and this time, it's Mohd Siraj. Zakary Foulkes tried to play the slower delivery, only to drag that into his stumps with an edge. New Zealand 239/7.

A direct hit by Shreyas Iyer and Michael Bracewell is run-out. Mitchell and Bracewell took the risk of a second run there but they forgot Iyer was keeping a watch. New Zealand have lost their 6th wicket for 237.

Daryl Mitchell brings up his second ODI fifty against India. He already has two centuries against the same opponent and he averages 54.87 in ODIs.

Prasidh has been good in this match after starting in a bad fashion. His lengths are much better and is pitching the ball up.

Praisdh Krishna has a wicket now, as Mithcell Hay can't judge the pace of the ball. The ball comes back in sharply and he is bowled.

New Zealand are really struggling at the moment. They need to take the game deep and look for at least 320-350. But for that, Mitchell needs to stay at the wicket.

Kuldeep finally has a wicket. Kuldeep bowls a googly from middle-leg, and Phillips edges it. Iyer takes an easy catch.

What he really does well is, not give time to the batters to get set. He doesn't leak runs either.

Kuldeep Yadav back and India should be looking for another wicket here. Daryll Mitchell could be dangerous here.

A slower bouncer by Siraj, and he has brought a wicket for India. Will Young tries to scoop but is caught behind. India is clawing their way back into the match.

Now, Siraj comes into the attack. India have managed to apply some pressue. That could lead to more wickets.

What is happening here. Now Conway chops one on to his stumps. Rana is emerging as a strong middle-overs bowler.

Gill turns back to Harshit Rana again, but the result is no different. He is hit for a couple of boundaries in the over. Oh, wait. Harshit has a wicket here. Bowls a slower one, and Nicholls edges it to the keeper. Out for 62 from 69.

One might not know, NZ has not won an ODI in India since 2017. That is still a long time. The onus is on India to continue that streak. Also, fifties for both the openers.

Conway goes for a big one, but Washi misjudges a catch at the boundary. It sails over the fielder for a six. NZ still in their opening stand.

This Indian team has just way too many captains -- Iyer, Rahul, Virat and Rohit, apart from Shubman Gill being the original one. So who is really strategising?

Nothing seems to be happening for India as of now. Prasidh is bowling a little short, and that is not going to bother the Kiwis. It is time to get some drinks.

Kuldeep YAdav finally introduced into the attack and India desperately need a wicket from him. But he is hit for a boundary by Nicholls.

Shubman Gill is persisting with Prasidh Krishna and the latter continues to bowl short. Why no Kuldeep till now?

Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls have brought up a 50-run stand. Both have looked solid so far, barring a chance Nicholls gave away off Harshit Rana's delivery.

Prasidh Krishna has replaced Harshit Rana on the other end as India keep pushing for a wicket. But his first over doesn't go well as he concedes two boundaries.

Shubman Gill has called up Washington Sundar to replace Mohd Siraj as the first spell by the two pacers yielded no results. Can Sundar get a wicket here to break the opening stand?

A change in bowling is needed as the two Kiwi openers have begun to boss the game. While Devon Conway is leading the charge, Henry Nicholls is also taking the attack to the Indian bowlers.

Henry Nicholls gets a lifeline as Kuldeep Yadav drops a simple chance. Harshit Rana is furious as he created the opportunity with Nicholls, who tried to go over the third man. But he mistimed. Kuldeep came running and reached the position but could not hold on to the ball.

After Henry Nicholls, Devon Conway has also got his first boundary. He punches it straight past the bowler for a four.

Henry Nicholls is off the mark finally after facing 8 deliveries and he gets the first run through a boundary. Nicholls lofted it over the square and it went for a 4. 

Two tight overs by Mohd Siraj and Harshit Rana as they concede only two runs. The pitch is not as friendly for batting as one would hope.

Irfan Pathan feels Siraj can perfect Mohammed Shami's role at the 2027 ODI World Cup. Now, he bowls to the opening pair of Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls. Good swing early on as the ball hit the bat fiercely.

Interestingly, the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA), hosting it's first-ever men's international game, has facilitated Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their incredible contributions to Indian Cricket.

In contrast to other venues in the country, the Kotambi Stadium has helped pacers a little more than the tweakers. Perhaps India could've tried Nitish Kumar Reddy as well. However, it would be interesting to see how Siraj, Harshit and Prasidh fare here. This is the first men's ODI here in Vadodara.

The news from the middle is that Shubman Gill has won the toss and has opted to chase. India had an awful toss record in 2025 but the new year has certainly bring in good fortunes.

The current World No. 1 batter in ODIs, Rohit Sharma, is getting ready for 2026. He had a terrific last year and in ODIs at home, Rohit has a record of 5013 runs at an incredible average and SR of 57.00 and 104 with 24 fifties and 14 centuries. Even in the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, he ended up as the highest run-getter. Beware, New Zealand!

Just like in every other ODI game, Virat Kohli stands on the cusp of history. His 54th ODI hundred, if it comes in this series, will make him the boss of India vs New Zealand ODIs!!
