Cricket News Live: Smith eyes LA Olympics 2028

20/01/2026 10:44

Steve Smith has not given up on T20 dreams despite being overlooked for Australia’s 2026 World Cup squad. The veteran batter has shifted focus to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where cricket returns after more than a century.

He accepted selectors prefer Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head as openers but remains motivated. Smith now owns 1372 BBL runs at nearly 50 with a strike rate above 150. He has added strength to meet modern power demands and hopes form keeps the Olympic door open. It would certainly be a historic tournament.
