J&K pacer Auqib Nabi has been talk of the town for quite some time now. He has been delivering consistently for the team since last year, and the general perception is, he should be drafted into the Test side. After all, it was largely due to his exploits, that J&K are in contention to win their maiden Ranji Trophy title. There too, he bagged a fifer in the first innings vs Karnataka.
Auqib Nabi for IND vs ENG in July?
Now, ex-BCCI chairman Sourav Ganguly has advocated for his inclusion in the Indian side. The legend took on X, and went on to write, “J&K has shown the world what effort and intent can do ..They have made that region so proud of them .. tuff environment makes tuff people. Aqib nabi on his way to national colours .. england is the place to start in the summer.”
Sourav Ganguly sends message to Ajit Agarkar
Such was Ganguly’s recommendation, that he went on to tag chief selector Ajit Agarkar and even Devajit Saikia. It is important to note, that Auqib Nabi is the highest wicket-taker in the tournament this year (60*), and could easily bag a few more. Not just that, this happens to be the only third time, across the history of the tournament, that a pacer has bagged 60 scalps.
Ganguly also mentioned in his tweet, that England could be a great place to start his career. Team India play a 5-match T20I series in England in July, and post that in August, a Test series against Sri Lanka follows.
If the Ranji final is to be taken into account, Nabi returned with figures of 5/54, and bagged key wickets of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, S Ravichandran, and Shikhar Shetty. Earlier in the year, Nabi bagged an IPL contract worth INR 8.4 Cr with DC.
