Delhi Captials have named India women’s cricket team star Jemimah Rodrigues as the new captain ahead of Womens Prermier League (WPL 2026). The batter will replace Meg Lanning, who was released earlier this year ahead of the WPL 2026 mega auction. Rodrigues was DC’s top retention at Rs 2.2 crore and will now lead the team in a bid to guide them to their maiden WPL title.
Jemimah is DC’s new captain
Jemimah has been a part of DC since the inception of the WPL 3 years ago. her ascension as captain comes months after her heroics in the Women’s World Cup 2025 which allowed India to take a step closer to lift the coveted trophy. An ecastatic Rodrigues said that it was a dream come true for both her family and herself to be able to guide India to a WC win and be named DC captain for WPL 2026.
“It is an absolute honour to be named captain of the Delhi Capitals, and I am deeply grateful to the owners and the support staff for placing their faith in me to lead this team. It has truly been a dream year for me and my family, winning the World Cup and now being entrusted with this wonderful opportunity at a franchise that has held a very special place in my heart since the very first season of the WPL,” Jemimah said on being named the new captain.
Rodrigues has featured in 27 WPL matches, scoring 507 runs at an impressive strike rate of 139.67, including appearances in all three finals across the league’s three editions.
