India cricket team captain Shubman Gill dropped a hint on whether Jasprit Bumrah will feature in the IND vs WI 1st Test. Having last featured in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, it looks like there will be no break for the ace pacer as he set to hit the ground once again just after a three-day break. Bumrah had featured only in three out of five games in the IND vs ENG series as a part of his workload management.
Will Bumrah play in IND vs WI 1st Test
Speaking at a press conference before the IND vs WI 1st Test, Gill claimed that a call on the team combination will be taken on match to match basis. The Indian captain said that nothing was pre-decided, adding that it depended on how long a game went on for and how many overs a bowler bowls. However, Shubman did drop a subtle hint that indicated that Bumrah will be a part of the playing XI on Thursday as he said that the team was tempted to play a third seamer given the weather and the conditions.
“We will take a call on match to match (basis), how long a game goes and how many overs a bowler bowls. Nothing is pre-decided. You will get to know the combination tomorrow. Given how the weather and conditions are, we are tempted to have a third seaming option but we will take a call tomorrow,” Gill said.
Earlier on September 24, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said that Bumrah was ready and keen to play both the Tests against the West Indies. He noted that the pacer had had a five-week break as he had last played in the 4th Test in Manchester. Additionally, Agarkar claimed that the matches in Asia Cup were evenly spaced out and that hence there would be no issues with Bumrah playing both the Tests against West Indies.
