Suddenly out of no where, the controversial topic of, relationship between Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma & head coach Gautam Gambhir has come into light. The topic has been under discussion several times now, especially when Virat and Rohit closely bid adieu to Tests, and also the latter was removed from ODI captaincy, despite winning the Champions Trophy in 2025.
All okay between Kohli-Rohit-Gambhir?
But BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has categorically denied any such development between the players and the coach. Speaking on India Today podcast, Saikia dismissed these claims. “I have never seen them fighting. They are in a very good cordial relationship.”
Asked, if Virat wanted Gambhir out of the team, or vice-versa.. Saikia replied, “That perception might be there, but Virat Kohli is always in the team. Gautam Gambhir is also there. We see the results. Have you seen Virat not being part of the team?”
2027 World Cup on cards
“Nobody can force a player of Virat’s stature, to change and make a decision. He is at that level. He is not an ordinary player, he is a legend of Indian cricket. Nobody can force him to make a decision unless he chooses to. The board will not interfere in any player’s career,” Saikia added.
Meanwhile, the two Indian legends play only ODIs for Team India, and there is always a speculation, if the two will play the 2027 ODI World Cup or not. So far, the signs have been positive, as they have played the ODI series’ against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in the last few months.
