Former Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson tore into Sam Konstas over his verbal exchange with Jasprit Bumrah in IND vs AUS 5th Test. The 19-year-old riled up the Indian pacer which eventually costed Usman Khawaja his wicket in the very next delivery. While Australia coach Andrew McDonald accused the Indian side of intimidating the youngster, Johnson has reckoned that the team’s seniors should have counselled Kontas on how he should navigate in such situations.
Johnson slams Konstas for engaging in duel with Bumrah
In his column for The Nightly, Johnson wrote that Konstas’ exchange with Bumrah ended up with India having the last laugh as Khawaja dismissed on the final delivery of the day. He noted that a bowler always came out on top when it came to a showdown between the former and the batter. While he appreciated Konstas for standing up for his teammate, he pointed out that the latter chose to do so at the wrong time.
“Konstas’ inexperience showed when he inserted himself into a situation he probably shouldn’t have. Khawaja, being an experienced player, knows how to manage such moments, and the teenager should have left it to him,” Johnson wrote.

Bumrah vs Sam Konstas
The incident occurred in the 3rd over of Australia’s 1st innings as Bumrah was bowling to Khawaja. Konstas, who was at the non-strikers end, was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Bumrah. In the very next delivery, the premium pacer succeeded in getting rid of Usman Khawaja, following which he gave a cold stare to the 19-year-old.
