India batting coach ready to give Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli inputs but there's a catch

Sitanshu Kotak has special plans for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after the star duo performs poorly in recent times

After the debacle of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, India brought in Sitanshu Kotak as the new specialist batting coach in the India Cricket Team. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli performed poorly both at home and in Australia, and Kotak has special plans for the duo to turn things around.

India missed out on the WTC Finals after losing a 3-0 whitewash at home against New Zealand. This was followed by a 3-1 humiliation in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. A major onus of India’s poor performance goes to the poor batting from star batters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Special plans for Virat & Rohit

Rohit Sharma managed to score 31 runs from 5 innings while Kohli managed to score 191 runs in 11 innings. Ahead of the IND vs ENG 3rd T20I, Kotak answered the media claiming he can add 2-5% value to their batting.

“See, Rohit and Virat are very senior players. But even the players we have now, it is a lot more about sharing, a lot to try and understand how they are planning their games, where they think, and then if we can add something, that’s how I think, if I can add value to 2 per cent, 5 per cent, that’s a great thing,” Kotak told the media.

Sitanshu Kotak further added that the duo are senior players. And for them to learn something new or different, they need to be open and ready to learn.

“The amount of cricket they have played where they have performed, it won’t be unfair to say there might be a lot of things for me to learn from them. That’s the way this game goes. You have to be open, and you have to be ready to learn,” he added.

Kotat also revealed that both Rohit and Virat Kohli are seasoned players who have represented the country at the top level. He further claimed that the duo have played top-level cricket and there is in fact a lot he can learn from the duo. However, he continued to emphasize that for them to learn new things, they need to be open to the idea and ready to learn.

“If they are in a mindset, during that point of time, if they are ready to take any inputs, yes. I would have certain things in my mind, and I will share, but it has to be the right time, and they should feel yes, they are ready for that,” he concluded.
