On the day of the 1st IND vs ENG ODI in Nagpur on Thursday, Team India came up with an unexpected change as the best batter in the world, Virat Kohli missed out, due to a knee injury. Instead of him, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was handed his India cap, and made debut for the team in the format.
Virat Kohli Out from IND vs ENG 1st ODI
At the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed, “Jaiswal and Harshit are making his debut, unfortunately Virat isn’t playing, he had a knee problem last night.” Having said that, Virat Kohli’s injury doesn’t seem to be serious at all, and should be back in the next ODI. Mind you, the 36-year-old batter has an exceptional record in the 50-over format, where in 295 matches, he has scored 13906 runs at an average of 58. To go with that, he has 50 ODI tons as well.

Meanwhile, pacer Harshit Rana was handed his debut cap as well, who was brilliant in the T20I series vs England. Now, if he performs well, he could well be on the bus for the Champions Trophy. Apart from that, Mohammed Shami too made a comeback in the ODI format, after the World Cup 2023.
Another notable and expected inclusion in the team was that of Shreyas Iyer, who is also making his India comeback after playing his last for India in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in last August. Since then, he has been in sensational form in the domestic cricket, and has earned his spot in the team. As far as the toss is concerned, Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bat first.
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami.
