Team India play their semi-final contest against England at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium on March 5, and preparations are in full-swing. The Indian team might want to think, that after Sanju Samson’s 97 vs the West Indies, they might have a better chance, but England would back on their batting firepower too, to land a counter punch. And of course they are fully capable of stunning the hosts.
IND vs ENG at Wankhede
On Tuesday, couple of days prior to the match, the Wankhede pitch reveal was done; the wicket for now has a decent covering of grass, with a few patches in and around the popping crease. By all means, the grass will be shaved off, by the time the match comes, and it could promise to be a high-scoring affair, given the dry nature of the pitch, and short boundaries on either side of the wicket.
Low-scoring affair at Wankhede?
Traditionally too, this venue at Mumbai has been a high-scoring one. Last year India posted a massive 247 vs England at this venue. There will be decent bounce on offer too, with a bit of swing, due to breeze from the Arabian Sea. But contrary to the role spinners have played in this T20 World Cup, it could be a limited one for them here.
This WC has been a bit different though. Out of the seven matches played here, 200 has been breached only once (254 by WI). India struggled against the USA here and only scored 161. England, meanwhile nearly succumbed to Nepal here, after scoring 184. Dew might come into play later on in the game, so it should be a bowl-first kind of wicket.
