IND vs ENG, Day 1 Lord's Test highlights: Joe Root 99 not out, Indian bowlers ineffective on slow pitch

IND vs ENG, Lord's Test: England ended the day first day of the match at 251/4 in 83 overs, with Joe Root unbeaten on 99.

In a day that belonged to England, none of the team seem to have dominated it. In a see-saw battle, both teams tried their best to dominate the game, but that wasn’t to be. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley started the proceedings well for England, only to lose way in the middle, and then be resurrected by Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

InsideSport takes a look at the key moment of the first day of the Lord’s Test.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Puts Visitors on Top

Just when the first session in the day was turning out to be a one-sided affair, Shubman Gill turned to all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. And not only he struck in his very first over the day, but he hit the English side twice in the same over. First, it was dangerous-looking Ben Duckett, who flirted with a delivery out the leg stump, to be caught behind by Rishabh Pant, the second wicket of Zak Crawley was an absolute peach. The ball looked like coming in, but just drifted away a little, to take the edge to the keeper.

Rishabh Pant’s Nail-crack Worries Team India

In all fairness, Rishabh Pant is the most important player for this Team India. And to lose him, could be threatening for the visitors. In the 34th over of the innings, Pant suffered an injury in the left hand, due to which he had to go off the field. That meant, Dhruv Jurel took over the wicket-keeping duties, but it remains to be seen, if Pant can bat properly or not. Later, various reports suggested, that he broke his nail on the left index finger.

Joe Root Scores 3k Runs Against India

Former England skipper Joe Root achieved a special landmark in the Lord’s Test. He scored 3000 runs against Team India, in only his 33rd match vs the country. He averages a staggering 59 in these encounters, with 10 100s and 12 fifties to his name. Interestingly, he now has 103 fifty plus scores as well, in Tests.

The Bug Attack & 99

If not for a slight delay in proceedings, due to a bug/flies attack, Joe Root would have completed his ton on the first day itself. But that three-four minute delay meant, that another over couldn’t be squeezed in, and Root was stranded overnight on 99. He also becomes only the 17th man in history, to end a day on the score.
