After being out for over a year due to an ankle injury, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami makes a comeback in India’s playing XI for IND vs ENG 3rd T20I. Shami is back after 436 Days. Shami last represented India in the ODI World Cup final held in Ahmedabad in 2023. Following his ankle injury, which kept him sidelined for a year, the 34-year-old had surgery and is now back in both the Indian T20 and ODI teams. Shami comes in for Arshdeep Singh. He missed out on the initial two matches to find his rhythm and now ready to play the 3rd T20I.
Shami’s ankle surgery and rehabilitation
In January 2024, Shami underwent successful ankle surgery in England. Following the surgery, he spent several months in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Shami made his competitive return to cricket with the Ranji Trophy in October 2024.

Shami’s performance in domestic cricket
Shami made his comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh in the first round. He also performed well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (ODI). Despite his strong form, he was not picked for the Indian team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he wasn’t fully fit at the time. But now he makes his return.
Mohammed Shami in the Champions Trophy
Mohammed Shami’s return to the Indian team is crucial ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy. He has been included in the T20I squad to give him time on the field. Following the T20I series, Shami will also take part in the IND vs ENG ODI series, allowing him more chances to prepare and regain his form before the Champions Trophy.
