Arshdeep Singh did not feature in either of the two T20Is on the Australia tour.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has criticised India’s decision to leave out Arshdeep Singh out of the XI in the IND vs AUS T20I series. Arshdeep was ignored in favour for Harshit Rana in both games as India have now gone 1-0 down in the 5-match series. While Rana chipped in with the bat on Friday, Ashwin remained perplexed with Singh’s continued axing from the team.

‘I just cannot understand’ Ravichandran Ashwin on Arshdeep Singh snub

Arshdeep Singh was India’s premier T20I bowler but has seen his stocks fall under coach Gautam Gambhir. Jasprit Bumrah’s return along with India’s need for batting depth meant Arshdeep has spent most of the last few months on the bench. He played in the Asia Cup when India opted to rest their first choice pacers, but hasn’t featured yet in the IND vs AUS T20Is.

“My point is that Arshdeep’s name should be the second name after Jasprit Bumrah. If Bumrah is not there, then Arshdeep Singh has to be the first bowler on that list. I just cannot understand how Arshdeep Singh keeps missing out from the playing eleven. The performance he gave in the T20 World Cup in 2024 should have sealed his place,” Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

The Punjab Kings pacer is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. Despite the surface offering pace and bounce, Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav opted for a 3-spin line up with Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Ravi Yadav.

“It is not about Harshit Rana or anyone else. This is about Arshdeep Singh and the fact that he deserves to be there. His place is in the XI, and he should be playing regularly,” he added,.
