Varun Chakravarthy, who was the India cricket team’s second-best bowler after Kuldeep Yadav in the ICC Champions Trophy Final, has revealed that he was battling an injury. Bowling first, Team India management restricted New Zealand to 251. Chakravarthy played a huge role in keeping a lid on the scoring rate.

He got the first wicket of Will Young and also sent the dangerous Glenn Phillips to the pavilion. When Rohit Sharma needed wickets, he turned to the mystery spinner. However, as the first innings progressed, Chakravarthy looked hampered. He was seen limping around and even lying down on the field as he experienced pain.
But Chakravarthy powered through. He ended his spell in the 45th over of the match, and only then did he leave the field. For the last five overs, Washington Sundar took his place. After the first innings of the India vs. New Zealand final concluded, the spinner revealed the issue he was facing.
“Little sore (on his foot), have to take some painkillers,” Chakravarthy said after the first innings.

He also revealed that he cherishes bowling in the powerplay and the death overs. Asked who of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav he enjoys bowling with the most, Chakravarthy said the wrist spinner.
“It was a good wicket compared to the last game. Wasn’t turning much. For me, it was sticking to the stump line and waiting for the batter to make a mistake. I like bowling in the death and the powerplay. It’s challenging and also gives me an opportunity to pick wickets with the batsmen going after me. I like working and talking to Kuldeep, Jaddu bhai, and Axar,” the mystery spinner added.
