Full-strength Pakistan can't defeat 'D' teams, says Kamran Akram after Champions Trophy humiliation

Pakistan has lost to the USA and Zimbabwe in the last two T20 World Cups and was easily beaten by Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023.

The Pakistan cricket team is at an all-time low. They haven’t been able to pass the group stage of the last four ICC events. This, of course, includes their shameful exit from the Champions Trophy 2025. As the hosts of the event, they failed to win even one match and were knocked out in just six days.

Pakistan cricket is struggling

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal thinks that the Pakistanis haven’t even been able to beat ‘D’ sides of teams. This is despite them being at full strength. This isn’t false either. In 2023, Pakistan drew a 5-match series against New Zealand’s ‘F’ side, who didn’t have main players.

“We are not able to defeat D teams who come to our country playing with our full teams. You are good and get respect only when your team plays well and wins,” Karman said on his YouTube channel.

PCB was humiliated by the ICC

The wicketkeeper also pointed out the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the country in general was humiliated. There was no representation of the PCB at the ICC Champions Trophy award ceremony. Had someone watched the backend of the tournament, no one would even know the tournament was held in Pakistan.

“It was shameful in the ceremony. We are not capable of this because our aim was to host the event, and we did it, and it was successful, but with that, you also earn respect by playing good cricket. We have finished eighth, and that is why we are being made fun of. In the ceremony, no one discussed Pakistan and how good the tournament was hosted in Pakistan,” Akmal said.

“The final of the Champions Trophy is done, but we have been shown the mirror by ICC and by world cricket the way we played and the way we had no representation in the ceremony. The chairman was not there and not well, but the tournament director was there; he could have come for the ceremony. Why did he not come? He did not come because we did not deserve it. The way we have played, our performance has been poor for the last 5-6 years,” he added.
