It is hard to imagine a Delhi-born cricketer not being a fan of Virat Kohli. Even if you are the son of legendary opener Virender Sehwag. Aaryavir Sehwag, who never had a modicum of inspiration right in his home, has been a long admirer of Kohli, who is a role model for basically every cricketer across the country. Aaryavir is no different; he wants to share the dressing room with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) superstar.
Aaryavir Sehwag’s wish to play with Kohli
Although his dad, Virender Sehwag, has represented the likes of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, Aaryavir has his aims set. In an exclusive conversation with InsideSport, the young prodigy disclosed his wish to play in the IPL, particularly for the IPL 2025 winners.
“Virat Kohli is my era’s greatest batsman. Yes, it is my dream to share the dressing room with Virat Kohli at RCB. If I get an opportunity to play in the IPL, then sure, I will play with him (Kohli).”
The name Aaryavir Sehwag first drew headlines during the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction, where the son of one of India’s most explosive openers was expected to be a talking point. On the back of his domestic performances, Aaryavir sparked a fierce bidding war.
Aaryavir Sehwag is the future?
Placed in Category B with a base price of Rs 3 lakh, he was finally snapped up by the Central Delhi Kings for Rs 9 lakh after heavy competition from the South Delhi Superstarz and West Delhi Lions. Although he hasn’t been able to find a game time, CDK might just draft him once Yash Dhull goes for Duleep Trophy preparations.
Aaryavir has got hype around him right from his double century. Representing Delhi U-19s in the Cooch Behar Trophy, Aaryavir produced two back-to-back innings that stamped his arrival as a serious talent. First came an unbeaten 200 against Meghalaya, laced with 34 boundaries.
The very next day, he went even bigger, smashing 297 off his own bat, falling agonisingly short of a triple century. The junior Sehwag also shared the values his legendary father has taught him. The invaluable virtue of being humble is what has kept the Sehwag grounded.
“To remain humble. To speak kindly with everyone. And to keep your head down irrespective of how you perform in cricket.”
