England cricket team star Sam Curran hopes that an explosive Abhishek Sharma will have a quiet game in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The explosive Indian opener has been sub-par in the marquee tournament thus far, with just a 55-run knock against Zimbabwe standing out while he has three ducks to his name. Ahead of the India vs England contest in the T20 WC semi-final on Thursday, Curran has opined on what he expects from the game and how the surface at Wankhede will behave, apart from how his teammates will fare.
‘Hope Abhishek remains silent’
Speaking at the pre-match press conference before the IND vs ENG T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final, Curran said that England’s focus will be on Thursday night and that the team hopes Abhishek will have a quiet night. The Indian opener has managed to get some good starts but has struggled, given his explosive approach, leading to the team losing a wicket early on in the powerplay. Ahead of the semi-final contest, Curran hoped that England will be able to keep Sharma quiet.
“Our main focus is Thursday night. Hope Abhishek will have a quiet game. Sorry for everyone getting affected in the middle East but our focus is on the Thursday night,” Curran stated.
So far in the T20 World Cup 2026, Sharma has registered scores of 0, 0, 0, 55 and 10. He missed the game against Namibia due to a stomach infection which had forced him to be hospitalized. His form is a worry for India, given that it puts pressure on the middle-order. On the other hand, the team has benefited by adding Sanju Samson to the line-up as he has provided stability at the top of the order, especially with his 97-run knock against West Indies in India’s must-win Super 8 fixture. Sharma will have to go all guns blazing if the defending champions fancy a chance of making to their second consecutive T20 WC final.
