On July 29, Gautam Gambhir was involved in a fight with the Oval’s pitch curator. Arshdeep Singh will likely make his Test debut. BCCI has told Jasprit Bumrah how many overs he has to bowl in a Test match. In IPL news, CSK and KKR have coaching updates. And at one point, RCB was thinking of removing Virat Kohli as their captain.

Gambhir’s Oval outburst
Gautam Gambhir lost his cool during India’s practice and was seen having a verbal altercation with the Oval pitch curator. Gambhir was seen pointing his finger at him and even cursed. India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak later revealed that the whole matter came about after the curator yelled at the Indian support staff. Read more about it here.

KKR part ways with head coach
KKR has parted ways with their head coach, Chandrakant Pandit. The renowned coach joined KKR in 2022 and helped them win their second title in 2024. Pandit didn’t have great results after both Gambhir and Shreyas Iyer left the franchise, winning just 5 matches.

Bharat Arun, CSK’s new bowling coach?
Although KKR hasn’t confirmed it, Bharat Arun may not continue as their bowling coach for IPL 2026. Like Pandit, Arun also came on board in 2022 and has nurtured the likes of Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora. Arun could join CSK as their bowling coach going forward.

Test debut for Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh was expected to make his Test debut in Manchester. However, a hand injury ruled him out. Now that he’s regained full fitness, it’s expected that Arshdeep will get his Test cap at the Oval. Jasprit Bumrah will, in all likelihood, be rested, and Anshul Kamboj didn’t do well in Manchester either, which opens the door for him.

Kohli was going to be removed as RCB captain?
Former RCB all-rounder Moeen Ali has revealed that the franchise was thinking about removing Virat Kohli as their captain after the IPL 2019 season. After taking RCB to the final in 2016, the Kohli-led team finished last, third last, and last in the next 3 seasons. Parthiv Patel was going to replace him as RCB captain, but for some reason, that didn’t happen.

BCCI’s workload plan for Bumrah
BCCI’s workload management plan for Jasprit Bumrah has been revealed. The medical team has advised that Bumrah has to bowl no more than 45-50 overs in a Test match. So far in the India vs England series, this has been followed, but at Manchester, he bowled 33 overs in an innings, which is the most he has ever bowled. Luckily, there wasn’t a second innings.
