The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will review the performance of the India cricket team in the U19 Asia Cup following the loss against Pakistan in the U19 Asia Cup. Ayush Mhatre and co. suffered a 191-run defeat at the hands of the arch-rivals in the high-octane contest. While Pakistan is ecstatic after the win, Pakistan has dubbed India’s behaviour as unethical through the tournament.
U19 Asia Cup loss upsets BCCI
As per Cricbuzz, the BCCI will review the performance of the team following the loss to Pakistan at the U19 Asia Cup. The decision to review the team’s performance was taken during the Apex Council meeting on December 22. As per the report, the BCCI will mot only seek answers from the team manager but will also question head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and captain Ayush Mhatre.
“The decision was taken at an Apex Council meeting held online on Monday (December 22) evening. The BCCI will seek a report from the team manager and is also set to speak with head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and captain Ayush Mhatre,” the report stated.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan star and the U19 coach claimed that India’s behaviour was unethical, while claimimg that he had advised the team to be respectful in terms of their celebration. His remarks come in the background of the Indian team refusing to shake hands with their Pakistan counterparts, toeing the line of the senior men’s team.
“We have played against Indian teams that respected cricket. The way the young boys behaved was disrespectful towards the sport. India’s behaviour regarding the game was not good, and the Indian team’s conduct in cricket was unethical,” Sarfaraz said.
India U19s downfall perhaps started from one bad decision, in hindsight. After winning the toss, India skipper Ayush Mhatre opted to bowl first on a Dubai wicket that looked excellent for batting. And then Pakistan opener Sameer Minhas went on to capitalise, scoring 172 from 113 deliveries, taking his side to a mammoth 347/8 in 50 overs. That was enough to secure a 191-run win over India, as Pakistan U19 won their first-ever Asia Cup trophy.
