Bangladesh might still participate in the T20 World Cup 2026. Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed they won’t travel to India for the event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) hasn’t officially ruled Bangladesh out yet.
The BCB had approached the ICC’s Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC), but that move hasn’t worked. It’s expected that ICC will provide the final verdict later today.
BCB to meet Bangladesh chief
However, before that happens, BCB will talk to the Bangladesh government once again. According to Cricbuzz, BCB officials will meet the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, Muhammad Yunus, on January 24. It can’t be confirmed, but BCB may have reached out to ICC again, with the hope of resolving the matter.
“We all want to play the World Cup. The security issue remains intact for our players and contingent in India. It started with one player getting kicked out of their league. ICC can say whatever they want, that there’s no security concern. But our player has been kicked out of their tournament. That country is hosting the World Cup. What has changed since then? If Mustafizur can’t be provided security, how can we be convinced that ICC will give security?” BCB President Aminul Islam had said two days ago.
Scotland yet to be confirmed
Meanwhile, the ICC hasn’t officially confirmed Scotland as Bangladesh’s replacement either. Although it’s expected that the Scots will replace the Tigers in Group C of the T20 World Cup, it’s unclear whether Cricket Scotland (CS) has received anything formal from ICC.
